Layered Stencils Technique

So today I'm back to the Dreamweaver Monthly Challenge, but I've snuck in a little Stampendous as well, just in case you're sliding by from the Blog Hop!

Here's this week's "May Flowers" card...
When I was down in Anaheim for the CHA, I had the opportunity to watch Magdalena work with the Craft Foil, and layer Main image stencils with Background stencils, and create absolutely gorgeous Cards!  My mind exploded, and I haven't been able to put down my embossing tools since!  Here's a quick run through as to how this card was created, but if you are looking for a more in depth instruction, I am teaching this class at the store on Saturday April 28th @ 2pm.

On a smooth flat surface, I used my #2 Paper Stomp to hand emboss the Plumeria Flowers LL-385 onto the Teal side of the Craft Foil.  (The stencil is underneath the Craft Foil, on the Teal side, which you can't see in this picture)

I then placed the Craft Foil on an embossing mat, and using my Teflon Tool, I added the extra detailing to the petals.

Using a Fiberglass Tool, I scratched off  some of the paint from the flower petals and the leaves, I left some of the colour on, as I love the "Vintage" look of the foil.

Placing the Background stencil on a flat surface, and the Craft Foil over it (with the Teal colour facing up) I used the #5 Paper Stomp to hand emboss the Cathedral Windows Small LL-909 pattern onto the Foil.

Turning the Craft Foil upside down again, and placing it on the embossing mat, I used the 5 point Pounce Wheel to add the border to each edge, and then outlined the Background pattern with the teflon Tool.

Back to the front of the Craft Foil, I then used a sanding block to take off a bit of the Teal colour and allow the Silver core to show through.

I then matted the finished piece onto Silver Vellum and mounted it to the Card Base.
Oh, and I stamped the sentiment from the Friendly Phrases Set from Stampendous (I told you yesterday how great this set is!) using Black StazOn ink.

I absolutely LOVE this technique, and although there seems to be a ton of steps, each only takes a few seconds to complete, so it's a very fast card to put together!

Now don't forget to check out the Dream-Pendous Blog Hop, as it's still going on, and the players for today are...

Be sure to leave a comment on their blogs, as Dreamweavers and Stampendous have put together an awesome package to be given away at the end of the Blog Hop!  Good Luck!

And of course, be sure to go to the Dreamweaver Facebook Page and "Like" us, as there is a Free stencil to be won each day to one lucky Crafter!

I'm back on the Hop for Saturday, so come on by to see what I've done, it's SUPER awesome (if I do say so myself, tee hee)

And with that,
Sand 'til you sweat,
Emboss 'til you burst,
And I hope that you try out this cool technique, e-mail it to Lynell, and get yourself entered to win 2 Free Stencils at the end of the month!
Jessie

PS - We don't have all these supplies up on our online store yet, but they are all available in our Retail store, so come by for a visit if you can, or e-mail me at info@cherishthethought.ca to place a special order.

  9. Gorgeous -- what a great background stencil! I will have to look for the teflon and fiberglass tools as they look like just the thing to have to use on metal.
